Accountant / Bookkeeper | Geelong

$75,000 to $85,000 + Super | Full-time | Geelong

We're working with an established accounting firm in central Geelong that is looking for an experienced Accountant or Bookkeeper to join its growing team.

This role could suit someone from public practice, or a strong Bookkeeper who has been working closely with accountants and clients and is ready to take on broader responsibility.

The common thread is practical experience, confidence with clients and a genuine understanding of how the numbers fit together.

What you'll be doing

You'll work across a varied client base and support the day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping needs of individuals and businesses.

Depending on your experience, your work may include:

• BAS and IAS preparation
• Bookkeeping across multiple clients
• Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
• GST and PAYG
• Payroll and superannuation
• Month-end and year-end preparation
• Financial statement preparation
• Income tax returns
• Working across companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals
• Liaising directly with clients
• ATO liaison
• Cleaning up accounts and resolving discrepancies
• Supporting tax planning and year-end work
• Using Xero, MYOB and other cloud accounting systems
• Helping clients better understand their numbers

There is scope for the role to lean more heavily toward bookkeeping and compliance, or further into accounting and tax, depending on the person.

You don't need to fit one exact job title.

We're more interested in whether you can confidently manage client work, produce accurate accounts, understand BAS/GST requirements and communicate well with the people behind the businesses.

Experience within an Australian accounting practice would be highly regarded, but we're also open to experienced bookkeepers who have worked across a broad client portfolio and have strong technical foundations.

You'll ideally bring

Experience with Xero is highly desirable, along with confidence working across reconciliations, BAS, GST and general ledger work.

If you are an Accountant, experience preparing financial statements and tax returns across different entity structures will be valuable.

If you are a Bookkeeper, we'll be particularly interested in your ability to manage multiple clients, troubleshoot messy accounts, handle BAS and payroll confidently and work independently.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who takes ownership, communicates clearly and cares about getting the work right.

Salary

$75,000 to $85,000 + Super, depending on experience, technical capability and the level of responsibility you can take on.
